Urban dreams should not be put on hold due to budget constraints. In a context where every dollar counts, it is essential to find clever financing methods to bring your public space projects to life. Dive into this article to discover how, today, you can transform your visions into reality with innovative and tailored financing strategies for municipalities and cities.
Is it easy for cities and municipalities to finance a public space project?
Of course! Whether you represent a business, a municipality, a non-profit organization (NPO), an Indigenous community, or any other type of public organization, it is always possible to obtain financial support due to the diversity of financing means available in Quebec.
New Horizons for Seniors Program
The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is a federal grants and contributions program. This program offers financial support eligible for a maximum grant of $25,000 per project over a one-year period. It encourages the realization of projects that have a positive impact on the lives of seniors and their communities.
Program for the Upgrade and Improvement of Trails and Outdoor Activity Sites
The Financial Assistance Program for Trails and Outdoor Activity Sites (PAFSSPA) aims to support projects for the upgrade and development of trails and outdoor activity sites in Quebec. Its objective is to ensure the presence of trails and outdoor activity sites in several regions of Quebec and to promote accessibility to these trails and sites.
Schoolyard Development, a Team Effort!
The schoolyard is an important place for the overall development of students and the well-being of staff. This measure financially supports school service centers and school boards in schoolyard improvement projects and aims to stimulate and make physical activity safer for young people.
Kino-Québec also offers the guide Schoolyard Development, a Team Effort! accompanied by practical sheets and tools, to schools that wish to implement a development project, with the goal of ensuring its success. This guide proposes a collaborative approach to plan, design, and optimally carry out the development of a schoolyard. It also allows for the planning of maintenance, inspection, use, and follow-up.

Rural Pact
The Rural Pact program results from the 2014-2024 National Rural Policy, put forward by the Quebec government and its partners, to implement measures that promote the development of rural communities. For example, in the Monteregie region, the targeted areas are the thirteen peri-urban municipalities of Haut-Richelieu: Saint-Valentin, Mont-Saint-Grégoire, Saint-Sébastien, Sainte-Anne-de-Sabrevois, Henryville, Lacolle, Saint-Georges-de-Clarenceville, Venise-en-Québec, Saint-Alexandre, Noyan, Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville, Saint-Paul-de-l’Île-aux-Noix, and Saint-Blaise-sur-Richelieu. Additionally, the amount granted is approximately $5,000 annually, and the maximum aid awarded to a project is $1,000.
Program for the Enhancement of Public Land
This program aims to increase the establishment and expansion of public and community facilities on public land. It offers 50% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $200,000.
Sponsors: An Invaluable Source of Funding
Beyond traditional grants and programs, sponsorship offers a valuable avenue to finance your park or public space. By “selling” the name of the park, installing a commemorative plaque, or offering advertising spaces on signs or even on urban furniture, the possibilities are numerous. This approach not only generates revenue but also forges strong ties with local businesses, while offering them increased visibility. By exploring these options, you can not only meet the financial needs of your project but also strengthen the community anchoring of your public space.
