The 2024 Grands Prix du Design awards, held last November, celebrated innovation and excellence in landscape architecture. Among the winners, several projects from our partners stood out due to their bold vision and commitment to integrating creative solutions into public spaces. Here are three notable ones!
Taishan Park - Projet Paysage
Grands Prix du Design 2024 awards:
Gold Certification - Landscape Architecture / Landscape Architecture in the Public Domain
Taishan Park commemorates the friendship pact between the city of Taishan in China and the Lasalle borough in Montreal. This park celebrates diversity and interaction among people of all ages and backgrounds. It symbolizes the significant presence and evolution of the Chinese community in the neighborhood.
At the entrance, a stele adorned with the calligraphy of Montreal artist of Taishanese origin, Ngan Siu-Mui, welcomes visitors. The installations are designed for both young and old, while promoting urban biodiversity. In addition to water jets, wooden play modules are adapted for two age groups: 18 months to 5 years and 5 to 12 years. Their design encourages children’s agility and confidence. While the children play, adults can enjoy pleasant urban furniture in harmony with the surrounding vegetation. Designed as a sponge park, it is bordered by a dry river that absorbs excess rain. This park, a gathering place for a large community, energizes neighborhood life and contributes to the greenery of residential developments.
Deauville Park - Pierrefonds-Roxboro Borough (Montreal)
Grands Prix du Design 2024 awards:
Silver Certification - Landscape Architecture / Landscape Architecture in the Public Domain
Gold Certification - Special Awards / Landscape + Wood
Maria Isabelle Hernandez and our partners from the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough wanted, with Deauville Park, to create above all a community experience. To achieve this, they invited neighboring residents to participate in planting a mini-forest in the park, thus transforming the project into a collaborative effort. They also reused ash trees, felled due to emerald ash borer beetles, to make all the urban furniture, demonstrating a deep commitment to eco-responsibility and the importance of nature.
The park’s layout offers a biophilic experience with natural textures, earthy colors, and playful shapes that attract young adventurers. Children can explore creatively designed wooden play structures, promoting free play and connection with nature. It is also a dynamic space, with a complete fitness area to provide an unforgettable experience for all visitors, both children and adults.
Rosemont Park - Projet Paysage
Grands Prix du Design 2024 awards:
Gold Certification - Landscape Architecture / Landscape Architecture in the Public Domain
Grand Prizes - Landscape & Territories
By combining innovation and ingenuity, Rosemont Park in Montreal reinvents urban space as a social and ecological place. Its design highlights the strategic importance of public spaces in the face of climate challenges.
The 13,000 m² of Rosemont Park are designed to meet the diverse needs of a dense population. Wooden structures stimulate children’s creativity with their open configuration, while water games and the shade of lush vegetation offer a refreshing refuge in summer. Tables and lounge chairs invite picnics and relaxation in the sun. In winter, the icy trails are perfect for skating. In addition to its utility, the park addresses current environmental issues by promoting impressive biodiversity with clover beds, fruit trees, honey plants, and a microforest. This urban oasis is home to more than 550 trees. Designed as a sponge park, the site is entirely permeable thanks to the use of Solecol for the paths and includes a dry river to manage heavy rains. Rosemont Park thus combines accessibility, discovery, ecology, and innovation.
